Overcome Self-Limiting Beliefs

All of us have self-limiting beliefs that can prevent us from achieving our dreams and God’s plans for our lives.

This world is full of negativity. Sadly, it is shaping our thinking and beliefs about God, ourselves, about others, about the way how the world works. Those beliefs are holding you back from taking responsibility, from achieving what God has called you to and what you are capable of.

You are not born just to put a tick mark on your calendar when the year is gone. You live in a very crucial time and you take a huge part in what is happening right now around you, in your family, neighbourhood, work, or your country. God does not want you just to tick the box or live from Christmas to Christmas, He wants you to fulfil your destiny here on this earth.

Yesterday, I was talking to one young lady and she told me time flew by so fast. She could not believe that soon she had to say “goodbye” to 2019! People say that it’s only for older people time flies, but not for younger. I answered that young lady with a smile on my face, “If an older person said that I would not believe it, but because you, who is so young saying it, then I accept it. Time does fly fast! I agree with you!” She laughed.

You are born for such a time as this! You are not just a passer-by, you are a participant, a contributor, a partaker of God’s plans. You are very significant and without you, the world would be boring. God did not make a mistake. Before He formed you in the womb, He knew you, and before you were born, He set you apart and appointed you (Jeremiah 1:5). God called you by His grace, and in love, He chose you from your birth.

When you look at the mirror, who do you see? Do you see a person who is called, anointed, set apart and appointed? Do you see the one who can achieve anything because you know that God is on your side and He has called you into being for such a time as this? Or do you see an ordinary, not worthy, insignificant, broken, passer-by, fearful, doomed to failure?

The “self-limiting” refers to something, either physical or mental, that you create and that limits you. I like the quote of Bruce Lee. He said, “If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work, and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must go beyond them.” What are your plateaus? What does limit you to go beyond?

Maybe you reached a state of little or no change after a long period of activity and there was no motivation to go beyond? Maybe you wanted to see changes, but you put so many limits around your life that it caused stagnation and indifference? Maybe you went through difficult times relationally that you can’t trust people? Maybe you messed up so many times that you can’t even trust yourself?

In spite of all the failures, insecurities, self-limiting beliefs you had, the Lord is calling you to do it with Him at this time. Not by your own strength, but by His Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).

Gideon was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites. Then the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!” What? Did God call him a mighty hero? He was hiding, wasn’t he? Gideon answered to the angel, ‘The Lord brought us up out of Egypt; But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to the Midianites.” Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” (Judges 6:11, 12, 14)

As the angel of the Lord told Gideon, “Go with the strength you have. I am sending you!” The Lord is where you are right now. He is at the bottom of your fears and self-limiting beliefs, and He is saying to you, “Wake up! Shake off the limits my Mighty Hero! Rise up! Go with the strength you have. I am sending you! And if you trust Me, you CAN and you WILL fulfil your destiny.”
