A Place of Peace

“Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

The Great Commission, Matthew 28:16-20, is at the heart of our faith. At the Highbury Centre, we welcome many guests each year who have obeyed a calling from the Lord and gone out all over the world. They are indeed making disciples of all nations and spreading the good news far and wide. They often experience difficulties and stress, but hold on to the Lord’s promise that He will be with them, to the very end of the age. We love to watch them experiencing relaxation and restoration in our beautiful building as they spend time reading, resting and making new friends.

From the very start, the Highbury Centre has had a vision to welcome those who work for the Lord, to offer restoration and peace as they refuel for the next part of their journey. We are blessed to meet so many faithful disciples and to be able to give them a place to relax. One of the things we love the most is watching people meeting up at breakfast, in the lounge or the garden and talking about their experiences together. It’s good to see friendships being forged and advice being asked for and given.

It’s a privilege for us at the Highbury Centre to be able to do our bit in helping others fulfil the Lord’s purpose for them. We are often reminded of the stirring words of Isaiah 52:7:

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
