(Jesus said) But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 14.26

The Bible shows us that the disciples did not understand what Jesus meant by the Advocate before his death and resurrection. Pentecost had to come and filled with the Holy Spirit they knew not only what Jesus talked about back then but also understood their calling as disciple makers. It is reassuring to know that their Advocate in the 1st century world is also our Advocate today. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand God's words and encourages us to fulfil our ministry as Christians in the 21st century.

We wish you a blessed Pentecost this coming Sunday.

Things to do in London

June and July offers many outdoor events and programs in London which you can enjoy either as a lone traveller or with a family.

If you are in London on a Sunday and love colours and scents, it is worth to visit the Columbia Road Flower market. With Brick Lane nearby it is worth to explore the whole area.

Another colourful program could be to go for a walk by the canals. The canal side offers the sight of various boats, flowers and peaceful surroundings. London has a long canal system which you can learn a bit more about on the website of the Canal River Trust. The closest section to us is by Angel station which is a 10 minutes bus ride (or 25 minutes walk) from The Highbury Centre

Those interested in Victorian age London, can visit the Ragged School Museum. It was originally a school for poor children between 1867 to 1908. The founder, Thomas Bernardo, trained as a doctor and wanted to be a missionary in China but arriving in London he encountered the need of poor children and decided to be a local missionary instead. Visitors can see a Victorian classroom and a domestic kitchen of the time and a permanent exhibition about the lives of children then. The museum is free to visit but the opening times are limited so best to check in advance.

The London Bible Week 2017 is held from the 17th to 22nd July in the Emmanuel Centre, Westminster, London. This years' title is  "Meeting Jesus in God's word". You can book tickets for individual talks or for the whole week.

CWR is a Christian charity that provides courses and trainings about the Bible, Christian life, relationships and so on. Two free training days are coming in June, the Old Testament overview is on the 7th June, the New Testament on the 21st June.

The Highbury Centre news - REFURBISHMENT UPDATES

We are soon starting phase 4 of our refurbishment plans and this time our basement area will get a new, shiny look. The Highbury Centre stays open during this time (July-August 2017) but some services will not be available. If you are planning to stay with us during this time, please don't panic. The works will not come with major noise and mess as only a minor part of the building will be affected.

However, there will be the following changes during the refurbishment:

- The Dining room will be unavailable for a while, therefore we will be serving breakfast in the Conference Room. We will not be serving hot food, but it will be based on cereals, fresh rolls, jams, croissants, cold meats, cheese, fresh and tinned fruits, tea & coffee. Breakfast times might also change.

- The Library will be unavailable, which means that there will be no access to a fridge or microwave. The books are replaced temporarily to the ground floor so you can borrow something to read when here.

- The Luggage room will be unavailable. It does not affect guests who want to store bags with us for a few hours before check in or after check out, but we will not be able to store bags for overnight when you are not having accommodation.

If you have any items left in the luggage room, please arrange to collect before the 20th June, 2017.

If you have any questions about the refurbishment works, please email enquiries@thehighburycentre.org

With all staff members of The Highbury Centre we wish you a blessed Summer time and a great weather!
